So basically, when my girlfriend filed her FAFSA for her first year at college, her expected family contribution was 0$. This was based off her mom's tax information, but not the final tax return. When she had to submit the final tax return that she thought she already had, her financial aid changed. This was due to it including income from her stepfather than no longer lives with them and makes considerably more money than her mother. The office of financial aid told her that the only way to have her aid reflect her current situation was for her mother and stepfather to have an official divorce, which isn't an option as they are trying to make their marriage work again. Now, she has to pay 6000$ before December 1st or all of her aid will be revoked. Any advice as to steps she could take would be appreciated.
