Somewhat niche HSA question I can’t find an answer to.

If I move jobs and consequently HSA providers, I know I’m allowed to move funds from HSA 1 to HSA 2. However, if I’ve paid out of pocket for qualified medical expenses during the time frame I had HSA 1, can I reimburse myself from HSA 2 for those expenses?

Example scenario:

In 2015 I work for Company 1. I have a HDHP and a HSA with HSA Provider 1. I have $500 of medical expenses, pay for them out of pocket, and keep the receipts.

In 2016 I change jobs to Company 2. I get a new HDHP with a HSA from HSA Provider 2. I transfer all funds (>$500) from HSA 1 to HSA 2. Am I then allowed to reimburse myself from HSA 2 for the $500 of 2015 medical expenses?

I would think yes, because it’s all my money, and I have record of these medical expenses occurring during the time of HSA 1 being open. However, I can’t find a straight answer.

Thanks for any and all help!
