Hi,Working in my home, I'll often cut out a section of drywall to get into a wall, then put that same section back to finish the repair. When I do that, I go and cut a chamfer around the edges - basically create a 2" wide beveled area framing the opening in the wall, and the cutout. My goal when I do this is to allow me to patch without building up the wall by the thickness of the tape. Honestly, success is mixed.I do manage to complete the patch with no buildup, but probably because there is no buildup you can still see hints of the repair. I also always, always, always get some difference in the paint-sheen.Does anyone else do something like this? Am I wasting my time? I don't do a lot of repairs like this, so I don't want to conduct an experiment and have to re-do it. I landed on this approach and am afraid to try something else...Does anyone have alternate suggestions? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2POBrrN
