Without going into too extensive detail- I’m in a predicament which a lot of people are in which is damn unfortunate, and to be honest the vast majority of people with disabilities struggle more than I do.
Applying for SSDI/SSI is a painful long process and the worst part is that the work that you do while you are waiting to be approved has a major effect on your ability to become approved. Many of us who could likely do some part time work are very gun shy BEFORE the approval due to fear that it will be denied simply because of this. So, my mom has been helping me out and been very “understanding” up until now. She feels it’s her parental duty to tell me to work
I’ve had two head surgeries in the past two years and need one more surgery this year. I’m hoping that will be the last. I REALLY want to get on my own to feet. I’m a very independent person but I also cannot back myself into a corner with working now only to lose my prospect of the little disability support so that I can get on my feet financially.
Waiting lists for Section 8 and low income housing in my area are a year to more. I have applied to so many. I can do work, some work but I cannot maintain a regular schedule because of the inconsistency of my disease state and how erratic my symptoms can be.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Family support isn’t an option. I can live with friends for a month but need to find other arrangements.
