So life happened and I got a new job which was better for me in the long run but resulted in a pay cut from where I was at. I’m happier but stretched a little thin financially. My wife also decided to go back to school so she went part time. Needless to say money is just a little tight and I’m looking to see where I can save. My car is a 2017 VW GTI with a payment is 425 a month but now I’m commuting 100 miles round trip until my wife is done with school so we can move closer. So the added wear and tear as well as gas money is also higher. I have a transmission service in 10k miles which is another elevated cost beyond just oil.

Is it worth trying to keep the car and essentially live car poor for a while until the benefits of this new job start to pay off in my favor? I’m young (24) so I did something stupid and bought the car in the first place when I was thinking I was hot sh*t with a great paying job, but I’m young and figure I have time to fix this as well. If I could do anything to cut that payment in half, I would be much more comfortable and would have a much easier time accomplishing my other financial goals, like paying off my credit cards and helping my wife through school.

Thoughts? Questions?

Thanks all
