My wife and I just closed on our home around a month ago. Among the actual payment books and documents from our lender, we've already received several "official" documents trying to get us to buy crap like mortgage life insurance.
These aren't just obvious ads either, they are outright deceptive. Today we received a letter that had our lender noted on the address line "Lender: XXX bank" and the top of the letter says something like "Mortgage Information: Please complete and return"
When you're busy getting settled into your new home it's easy to miss things like this. Read everything you get carefully and don't be afraid to call your bank or closing company if you have any questions about your loan, title, etc.
