I'm trying to be more frugal with food costs so I thought I'd spend a week eating cheap stuff. Today was $5 and I ate a ton. I am a smaller sized female so calorie wise this is more than I even need, but I worry about a good balance of nutrients.
banana pancakes (2 eggs one banana) and coffee
2 slices whole wheat toast with peanut butter and an apple
6 oz petite sirloin steak with roasted veggies
1/2 acorn squash
chocolate soy milk and popcorn
all for $5!! I bought things in bulk (big bags of apples and potatoes) or on sale only. My breads and bagels etc. are only $1.25 a loaf for the quality $5 breads by going to the bakery outlet and freezing. I bought the perfect little steaks marked down that day, 2 in the pack for $6 to $3.25 and froze the other one.
