I'm so glad y'all are here, took me a while to find y'all. I just got married (second marriage) a couple of weeks ago. I have two children and I bought a house 2 years ago (in my name only). I have money saved in a 401K, which I borrowed from to purchase my house. I have about $60K total saved (I think it's an IRA .... I was granted this in the divorce and am very confused about how all that worked. I also have about $30K in debt...two credit cards and a personal loan.
I only have life insurance through my job and my husband doesn't have life insurance yet. My questions are.....what do I do now? I hate having so much debt, especially considering I pay all the bills and am not in the best of health. I need to make sure my kids are taken care of if anything could happen to me (at the same time, I want to ensure my EX can't take whatever they get, as they are minors). I'm pretty sure I need a financial advisor, but I'm not sure who to trust. I'd like to get some kind of life insurance/critical care insurance outside of work, but not sure what kInd to get (I've read about them, but am still confused on what would be best in my situation, especially considering I don't have much to spare after bills are paid each month). I'm at a complete loss as to where to even start work everything b/c it seems everything I read contradicts other things I've read. I want to write a will, but want to get things in order before I do. I don't know if I should put my husband's name on my house (he has an ex that has an order to get part of his estate if he dies and I don't want her to get my stuff....I know that sounds bad, but there are reasons).
I'm sorry this is so long...If anyone could lead me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.
