I'm moving into a great apartment with a ridiculously large bathroom. It has skylights and far more space than one needs for the usual bathroom activities.

I'm thinking of growing a bunch of houseplants there. A combination of ferns and a few larger plants would look terrific and make the space less empty. But I could see this costing a lot of money if I just go into Home Depot and start buying stuff, as I experienced last summer when I got the urge to start a small porch garden. What are some low-cost ways to acquire pots (would prefer all white ones, but they don't have to be ceramic), and houseplants (must be cat-safe)?

Obviously plants that can be propagated easily to create new ones would be a cost-saving measure.
