I've been working for 2.5 years at the first job I took since graduating college with a bachelor's in mechanical engineering. It's a smaller company personnel-wise but still makes pretty good profits. I work in design, but I am basically a catch all employee for all other departments from sales to manufacturing to quality assurance. I also have solely managed three major product transfer projects. I started out at $60k and have received a 3% raise at each yearly review. I decided that yesterday I would go to my boss, explain my worth and ask for a raise. I told him the 3% rate was not on par for where I saw myself in five years and I could probably make a much greater leap by changing companies. He agreed and said he would talk it over with the appropriate people. He also told me to take the weekend to think about how much I was looking for. I'm currently making just under $65k and am thinking about asking for 75-80k. I've never done this before and I don't know if I'm under or overselling myself. I also have six sigma green belt and the fundamentals of engineering certifications under my belt. Can anyone with experience tell me their opinion on if I'm asking too much or too little at this point in my life?
Tldr: Asked boss for a raise from 65k. Boss told me to take the weekend to think about how much I want. Thinking of 75-80k.
