I'll be using this as my design, but instead of 2x2s, I'll use mostly 4x4s. Also, the desk will stick out 3 feet from the posts, and from the user's perspective, the user will sit at the desk where the red arrows are so that the feet can slide under a bed and be used while laying down sometimes.I'd also like the table to tilt forward when laying, so I'll use a 2x4 support beam attached to the frame which will protrude 3 1/2 feet out from the frame--from the perspective of the user, the 2x4 support beam will go left->right underneath the center of the table. On the beam will be some door hinges, with maybe a peg somewhere to lock the desk tilt in position. I'll likely use a combo of epoxy + bolts/nuts.I think the frame should be beefy enough, but I'm worried the table itself might bend over time if it's only mounted on a wood beam going left->right underneath it. Should I use a pipe+flange in place of the wood beam, or is that overkill? Also, I'm open to alternatives to the door hinge idea--the main appeal of it is the cost, but at the same time it's a bit janky.edit: weight wise, I expect to have the desk support 4 monitors, my arms, and a laptop, which should roughly be 60 pounds + overhead. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2qjZMHN
