Hey there, I feel like an idiot about this, but here's the situation.
About a year ago (I know), I moved to another location in the same city. At my old place I had Spectrum internet. I tried to get it installed at my new place (and brought my modem with me), but after 4 appointments where the tech just never showed up and no explanation, I decided to go with another provider. I was tired of missing work to meet them and nobody coming, even after calling 3-4 times to check in every appointment day.
Well, somewhere in the shuffle of moving in and getting my new internet, the old Spectrum modem ended up buried in a closet, never returned to them. I just found it and it's been about a year since all this happened.
I haven't received a single bill about it in that time frame. Spectrum definitely knows I exist, I get ads in the mail all the time mentioning my previous customer status. My old account was linked to my email with notifications, and I haven't gotten anything.
I've tried logging in to my old account, but it says there is no user associated with the only email I've used for over a decade.
I'm pretty sure I was renting this modem, and that it costs a monthly fee. But it seems like Spectrum has no idea that I still have it.
I want to do the right thing and give it back. However, I also don't really want them to suddenly be alerted of this, and have me pay all the back-fees for having it. You would think they would send me a bill or otherwise notify me if it was racking up charges, right?
Any ideas of what I can do?
