For context: I'm 18, just graduated from high school, and going into university this fall. My mom was nice enough to save up an RESP that pretty much covers my entire tuition for 4-5 years. Because I worked so much over the summer, I told her I'd take care of anything smaller than that.

But my family was never well off to begin with and parents are ~100k debt because of a new car + shared business. She's claiming that if I take out a student loan, I don't have to completely pay it off. I told her that this definitely wasn't the case, (she heard it from a 55 year old woman at her workplace and for some reason believes her).

She's saying that she wants to take my student loan to help pay off her loan since she doesn't want the interest to accumulate. I'm just trying to avoid debt and tangling my money with my family. What should I do? Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice.
