Hello PF,
It’s been the week of weeks here.
I have had my 2007 civic for 8 years. We have been through life together and I think it’s about that time where the repair cost more than the car is worth.
It’s leaking from under the engine and has about 3 bad tires so I’m looking at probably $1,000+ to fix. Which I don’t have.
I have been car shopping however I am having very little luck.
Here is my situation:
-
no consigner.
-
Not enough GOOD credit history
-
Paying off medical bills that went to collection
-
Can not open new lines of credit because I have a credit card that went to collections. (The song Young, Dumb, and broke was written about me)
-
I made some poor credit choices before I got on my feet and I’m trying to clean it up now. I just paid $300 in back taxes which drained my savings. I have another $300 but that’s my child’s college fund.
I don’t know what to do. I have approvals for the auto places that will give you cars no matter what. One has a high down payment the other doesn’t have many options $300+ a month for a car that’s 10 years old and 100,000 miles.
I am working with another dealer who is trying to get me a special loan.
I am also filling an car loan app out from the bank I use. I got a personal loan from them 2+ years ago however it was co-signed.
Should I just bite the bullet and use one of the crappy auto dealers with high rates till I can improve my credit?
I can’t be without a car and I’m going to have to embarrass myself already by asking the in laws for money for a down payment.
I can afford up to $300 car payment and $150-180 of insurance a month.
Please help.
Edit: clarification-the car is also over heating.
