Hey everyone, I’m in my freshman year of college (community college) and by the end of my sophomore year I need to have enough money to rent an apartment. So I have roughly two years to save up(starting from scratch). At the moment I work at a bar as a doorman on the weekends. I only make roughly $500-$600 a month rn. Subtract a monthly payment of $120 for my BJJ class. Purchases like food, gas, etc. and I probably have like $200-$300 left. So basically I need to start saving so that in two years from now I will have enough money to rent an apartment. I’m looking to rent a 1 bedroom apartment that I will be splitting with my girlfriend(so she is saving up too but I’d like to have an abundance of savings just to be cautious). From the research I’ve done most of the 1 bedroom apartments in my area are around $900-$1500. I’m uneducated in terms of how renting an apartment actually works though. Do you have to put a down payment or something like that? Do you need good credit?(I don’t even have a credit score idt) basically just looking for tips and advice on how much money to save out of each $130ish paycheck and how to basically go about being able to rent an apartment by the end of these two years. So how much money should I have saved by the end of the two years? And how should I go about saving with my limited paychecks? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading.
