Like many others on the east coast I'm preparing for Florence and the possibility of not having power for several days or even longer.I have a 5500w generator with a 240v 30 amp out, a NEMA L14-30 30 amp extension cord, an inlet box, some 10/4 electrical wire, and an interlock designed to prevent the main and generator breakers from ever being on at the same time. My plan was to install an additional 30 amp dual breaker, connect it to the inlet box, and install the interlock. However my issue is this.My breaker box doesn't have room for another breaker. The breaker for the dryer, which I don't need during a power outage, is luckily at the top right position in my box and is a 30 amp double breaker.Am I correct in assuming that I can disconnect the dryer from that breaker and temporarily wire the inlet box for the generator into that breaker? Along with the properly installed interlock this should be a safe and legal option for energizing the electrical panel using the generator, correct? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2x6xofb
