I'm a very frugal person, but also want to help people and show them that I care. I value my friendships/family.

However, this usually results in me spending way too much money on all these little things that come up.

Examples:

- friends' birthdays. friends' kids birthdays.

- family members birthdays (brothers/sisters/relatives/parents/grandparents)

- christmas presents

- friends visiting you (and you feeling obligated to buy them dinner when out)

- you visiting friends far away (plane tickets!)

- cousins asking for donation money for their schools/fundraisers

- Litte charity things that come up (hurricane relief)

- the kids that knock on your door selling candy bars for their school

- treating your parents (because they raised you!)

- your buddy buys a round at the bar, and your other buddy does it as well, so then its your turn to buy 8 drinks for all your friends, totalling over 80 bucks in a bar tab (and you cant exactly say no).

it doesnt seem like much, but it happens with so much frequency that there is at least one or TWO things EACH WEEK that I have spend 20-30 bucks on. over the year, it adds up to around 2 to 3 thousand dollars.

how do I manage this without coming across as a cheap ass?
