I’m a fourth year public school teacher with my eye on the prize: Public Servant Loan Forgiveness.
I hate to say that I already feel like a sucker for going to get my Masters in the first place some days, but teaching is what I have always wanted to do. I feel fulfilled each day I work, even though it can be challenging. However, when I think about my financial standing with $70,000.00 in student debt and counting (interest), I feel overwhelmed. The PSLF was a major factor in my decision to go to grad school and pursue my dream.
I’ve heard rumors for years that folks trying to obtain their Forgiveness have had road block after road block thrown up in front of them. Now it’s coming out that 99% of these applicants have been denied, with the majority of them “not meeting requirements”, largely due to their loan services giving them bad advice. source
I have personal experience already with my loan servicer, Navient, providing me with bad info in other matters regarding my loans, so this news is seriously concerning.
The big problem: who can I turn to for reliable advice so that I and others can have a prayer of obtaining PSLF? Are there firms or companies who can help folks navigate the system and meet the qualifications?
Please help!!!
