I was wondering if anyone could give me some ideas/possibilities as to why this is going on. My roommate and I are living in a college town, and we are in some older apartment buildings that are right on the edge of campus. 2 of us were in our 3BR apartment for the summer, and with normal appliance usage we were averaging around $60/month on our electricity bills. At the beginning of August we moved into a 2BR apartment (which is on the top floor). It’s directly behind our old building, same landlord, same electric company. We just got our bill for September and it was $117 for the month.

We can’t seem to figure out why the price is so different. The only other things that we have constantly powered and running are the fridge, the router/modem, and a clock. We are having a small issue with out HVAC unit not getting air through the vents in one bedroom. After asking my landlord if the HVAC issue would be the cause of our high electricity bill, he insisted that it couldn’t possibly be it...

We also called the electric company and they said the bill wasn’t a mistake.

I was just hoping to get some ideas from other people to see what we may be doing wrong/could be doing differently. For right now (and as a college student) it seems like there might not be a lot we can do to fight this bill. We just want to try and make it lower if we can.

Thank you in advance!
