So I'm building a larger shed (12x20) using some free plans I found online. I'm gonna be using 4x4s on concrete blocks as the base since my spot isn't perfectly level and then have the floor raised above that.My question is about the 20 foot span on the rim joists. My local lumber stores don't carry 2x6 boards in 20 foot lengths and the nearest big box like Lowe's is too far away for delivery. Is it ok to use smaller lengths to combine for that 20 foot long length and if so, what lengths and what method? My 2 thoughts so far are to either 1) just butt up two 10 footers, then overlap them with another 2x6 and lag bolt them together and then just cut the 12 foot joists 1.5" shorter to account for the extra thickness, or 2) use two different length (like maybe 12 and 8 feet) and just make sure the seam is centered on a joist and then I'd have 3/4" of overlap from the joist on each board that would be enough to hold everything together and just swap the boards on the other side so they're reversed. The only question I have is with 16" on center joists what 2 lengths should I use?Is there a 3rd better way that I don't know about? Thanks in advance via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2wMNI5w
