Reddit, I need some advice on dealing with a spouse. We are renovating a house to practically brand new and hopefully moving in before the end of the year. The new place is smaller and about half the mortgage of our current house, which is great! Unfortunately my wife wants new bedroom furniture and living room seating in the new house. She says it will make her feel more like an adult and help when we entertain. I don't disagree, but the links she sent me for new items total over $5000. I'm trying to sell her on the idea of financial independence without going into debt, but so far I'm fighting a losing battle.
If anyone has good ideas about how to show the benefits of getting "new" furniture frugally or actually some good options for frugal furniture then please help me out. I've tried to search, but I didn't see anything immediately about this type of situation. Thanks Reddit!
