I'm always surprised by how few people know about this.
When a business owes you money but can’t send it to you, they may turn it over to the state. Each state holds onto that money and keeps a detailed list of who it belongs to. If some of it’s yours, you can file a claim to get it back into your pocket.
The money could be anything from eg.
- States' Unclaimed Money
- Unclaimed Back Wages
- Life Insurance
- Retirement
- Taxes
- Banking, Investments, and Currency
- Mortgages
- Saving Bonds
- International Funds
The United States Government 🇺🇲 has a service set up to help assist you with any queries or claims here: https://www.usa.gov/unclaimed-money
