We have an old Amana fridge that's been chugging along for something like 30+ years now. The light inside no longer works (dead socket), some of the seals are held on with tape, and some of the plastic is cracked, but it's otherwise been running fine with no issue for all these years and keeps food just fine.

We're being presented with an opportunity to get a new fridge for free through an energy program. However, there's a catch: we don't get to decide what model. They take measurements and order one for us. A week later they show up with the new fridge and cart away our old one.

Everything I've heard about modern fridges is that they SUCK now and only last for like 2-3 years maybe 5 if you're lucky. We can't decide if replacing ours is a good idea or not. On the one hand we have our current fridge, which is old and could give up the ghost whenever. On the other hand we get a new fridge which is probably crap. Looking 2-5-10 years out, we can't really decide what our odds will be looking like.

What are other people's thoughts on this? Are there any important points we're not considering?
