Hey all,I've been replacing the lighting and ceiling fans in my house over the past month. I got to the kitchen and I have a chandler over what is supposed to be a dine in kitchen. I wanted to replace that with a ceiling fan/light combo. My first thought is that Ill need to replace the... box mount...? in the ceiling with something more robust. I am looking at putting in this brace in the ceiling. I dont want to get into my attic, so I figured this style of screw mounting would stop that hassle of getting into the attic.Secondly, I need to determine the size of the fan. From the chandler's center to the wall is 47 inches. I remember reading somewhere that you should have 20 inches minimum between your walls and the fan. That means I could have a 52in diameter max fan? (47 - 20 = 27 would be the minimum radius, so double for diameter). Is the 20 inches from the wall a good call or should I give myself some additional buffer room? Finally, I'd like to replace the light switch that runs to the fan. It is currently 1 line that runs through my wall and to my chandler. I can work with 1 switch turning on/off my light and fan, but I'd prefer to have a switch that could control them independently. I was wondering if anyone knew what to search for with that. I lack the words to let my google fu flow. As is, my thought is to have the switch on the wall and get some controller to be able to adjust the fan setting. I prefer to have switches vs a mounted remote and I'm not sure what is out there or what the heck I should even be searching to find what I want.Any suggestions welcome!Dooks via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2BbAGmr
