I don't have anyone to share this with other than you /r/frugal folks
Looking around my place and I came to a pretty cool realization this week. I own nothing that I purchased new!
The furniture is 20+ years old and either was free or from yard sales, Craigslist, or curbside. The TV and wallmount were used from Craigslist. The appliances were all from the Sears scratch and dent sale. Tools, smart phones, clothes, video games, and computers were all free from others upgrading and some dumpster diving. Everything the kids have has been given to us or bought from used kids clothing stores. A kitchen reno was 100% DIY using leftovers from my father in law. I even have a "bed guy" who gets me last year's mattresses that didn't sell at a 90% discount. Also, my van was heavily discounted because I bought it from a funeral home and it used to carry bodies (I don't care!)
What I love most about it is that the objects have such history and time proven worth; a focus on quality and price over new and fancy
Being frugal to me is to treat item ownership as an investment in both value and longevity
Less is more.
