This is a long one.

In November I viewed a one bedroom flat with my partner. At the time the Landlord was a man and both me and my partner attended the viewing. Two weeks later I emailed him and requested the information to pay a deposit in the email I say again “my partner and I...” I pay the deposit in January (it took him a while to send me the details.) I hear nothing back for two months when a new landlord messages me asking if I’ve filled all the paperwork. I reply stating that I’ve only paid the depo and need the actual tenancy agreement. So the new landlord sent me these documents which me AND my partner both sign the agreement which states the rent is £175 per week and that the agreement was made on the 26th of January (leading me to believe the original landlord created the document and the newbie sent it to me)

I email back and forth with the new landlord using the terms “I” and “My” because I’m mainly the one to communicate between the landlord rather than my partner. However, now the landlord is stating that she didn’t know it was two people moving in due to the fact I never said “we” in any of my emails.. even though in the official tenancy document it states my name and my partner’s plus our signatures so as a result they’re trying to charge an extra fee per week for an additional person.

Am I wrong for refusing to pay? I have a meeting with the new landlord in 2 weeks and want to know my options and how to proceed.

Another note: my partner and I have been living with this company for four years and it’s always been stated.
