Bought a 3-story home build in 1917 about two years ago 1200 sq ft. The A/C unit says it was installed in 1990, it is very inefficient and I don't have the money to replace it. The home was also very poorly insulated, I don't have the money for this either right now. I almost had a heart attack last year when they finally came out to read my meter in April and then billed me for 1200 USD. Below I will list some of the things I did to save the money.

Bought 3 brand new window units. These only pull 480W vs my 4000W central A/C. I can essentially run 10 window units for the same cost as my central, which barely blows cool air. We put them in the areas that we actually spend the most time in.
The kicker- my fiance now says she is significantly more comfortable this year compared to last - these new window units are no joke in terms of efficiency and they still have great cooling ability.
