I think anyone who has decided to live simply has realized some things about society and how meaningless it is to over-consume and struggle for a social status. That's basically why I'm asking this question here. If you take away the "normal" goals in life, what are left?

Self-improvement is masturbation - Tyler Durden

When I ask other people on how to deal with these feelings it always comes down to pleasures or self-improvement like going to the gym or cleaning my room but that's not really what I'm looking for. I feel like I need something larger than myself. People in the past had their tribes to care for and if they didn't bring home something to eat people they cared for would starve.

Fast forward 6000 years and we've got endless amounts of young people living in their one-bedroom apartments living individualistic lives. It doesn't really matter if I live or die, nothing and noone truly depends on me and I find that depressing.
