Hi Guys,My wife and I are remodeling our two bathrooms, and we've had a hell of a time with our contractor and his tile guy. After a litany of problems and OSHA violations ( PHOTO INCLUDED: I walked into my backyard to find the tile guy standing on the tile, freehand cutting what is supposed to be a 4 ft long straight line with an angle grinder while his assistant sprays the grinder with a hose, and the power cord plug sits in a puddle of water) we've been left with uneven large-format tile cuts and (as of today, a super discolored/windowpaned marble tile mosaic bathroom floor. My situation gets into DIY because I still have my other bathroom ready to seal and grout, and I'm seriously considering just doing it myself, as I consider myself capable of following basic instructions. I'm hoping that you guys can point me in the right direction here before I make an even bigger mess of this myself. I'm trying to figure out if our problems are the result of incompetence or a material problem that I need to address. We have polished Carrara marble tiles honed Carrara hex and honed Calcutta Gold marble mosaic throughout our two bathrooms. I had been instructed by a few stores to apply 511 Porous Plus sealer to the honed marble prior to grouting, and that it would be fine to apply the same to the polished. I purchased a small bottle of the Porous Plus that is supposed to be good for 500 sqft. Our two bathrooms only have around 30 and 45 sqft of flooring, including the shower pans. For grout, I purchased Mapei Flexcolor CQ, specificially because I had been told that it would not infiltrate and stain marble, thus avoiding dark 'windowpaning' around the edges of each individual piece.Flash forward to today: I went to the property after work and found extreme windowpaning and discoloration throughout all of the floor tiles in the bathroom with the calcatta gold marble mosaic. Half of the bottle of Porous Plus was gone. The contractor and tile guy are very willing to lie to me at this point, but from my own timeline I don't see how they could have allowed the sealer to dry the mandated 6t-12 hours, especially given the amount they must have put on for... Could this over application of the sealer and the apparent disregard for drying time be what led to the discoloration? The FlexColor CQ grout was apparently applied after the sealant, but was not cleaned off quickly enough (instructions say 10 mins) and so there is grout deposited on the surface of the tile. I was able to rub some of the superficial stuff off but I'm not sure if and how I'll ever be able to get this right without damaging the tile even further. Thanks in advance for your help, I've lost a lot of time and money to these guys and I'd love to just DIY this project and end my frustration.Questions:Could the misapplication of the Porous Plus result in staining/windowpaning? Will this effect gradually diminsh with time if left untreated? Is there anything I can do to remove the windowpaning?Could the staining/windowpaning be the result of the FlexColor CQ? Is there an effective way of removing dried acrylic grout from the surface of marble tile without damaging the stone or the grout joints?PHOTOS:https://imgur.com/a/Mn0REl3 via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2BEF1im
