Hey /r/DIY! I bought a $40 used gas string trimmer that had been sitting for a while. It had been stored in a garage without gas, so it was in pretty good shape. The fuel lines were rotted though so I replaced those. I got 87 octane gas, mixed it with 2-cycle oil at the specified 40:1 ratio...but it just will NOT start. Here is what I've done so far: Replaced fuel lines, filter, and primer bulb Disassembled the carb and cleaned it; all ports flow Cleaned and checked the spark plug by grounding it against the engine (it sparks blue) Checked the kill switch with multimeter; closed in ON position, open in OFF position Checked muffler and spark arrestor screen; it flows Disassembled motor to get to the piston; piston rings are good; cleaned, lubed and reassembledMy wife thinks I'm silly for trying anything else, but I just can't figure it out. What am I missing? I might buy a replacement carb, but I'm hesitant to keep buying $10 parts because now my $40 investment is getting to the point where I could just buy a new one. Especially since I just thought it needed fuel lines and a little elbow grease to clean the carb. Thanks! If it matters, the model is Bolens BL100. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2LsOvwP
