I'm visiting my home town (Toronto), but I'm seeing everyone going in an opposite direction to where I want to go. All of my friends are getting busier, spending more money, working MUCH more, and just overall adding complexity to their and their childrens' lives. It's making me question coming back here.

Are there cities that accommodate and promote simple living? A place where people generally prioritize leisure time over work; where there isn't a huge focus on material goods; where people enjoy nature and the outdoors; where people are social; maybe a place that prioritizes things like meditation, yoga, and a healthy lifestyle; etc. And very importantly, where the cost of living isn't high. Available jobs is not a concern.

I'm looking for a place that would accommodate a family (i.e. has schools and activities, and social opportunities for kids), and is inclusive of visible minorities.

Do places like this exist? Any ideas?
