Finished picture first - build pics includedThe new walls complete with wall paperWe wanted to update the dinning room and my wife suggested wainscoting... but I wanted to do something a bit different. So I found some inspiration and designed this. (Was inspired to post after seeing a project on r/AmateurRoomPorn and u/NecroWafer was interested see what I did)The projectThe wall beforehand... see the graph paper on the wall and the boxes drawn on the wall first. I did the math - but being how these are plaster wall and the house was originally built in 1905 this room was not plum so it took some adjustments along the way.https://ift.tt/2v0pXWG removed the top molding, cut down hard board (1/8" thick) and glued and nailed it first to create a flat surface. I was concerned the plaster underneath would look too bumpy. While this worked out great, in retrospect I would have removed the rest of the base board. I was concerned with breaking the boards taking them off ... but you will see later this created lots of extra cutting for me once I started to layout the boxeshttps://i.redd.it/do8hznc1mzc11.jpgRouted the top molding removing 1/8" to get a nice tight fit.https://ift.tt/2LZvjrE were easy and then started to add the boxes.https://ift.tt/2v06C85 problem I created by not taking the base board off is that I now needed to slice 1/8" off all the boards to get them to fit. I big pain...https://ift.tt/2LZvkvI it started to come together nicely... pictures around the room pre-paint.https://ift.tt/2LScAl6 was a mess... Which I really could have avoid doing so much if I had just pulled those base boards off... :(https://ift.tt/2LZvlzM again the final pic, painted & wallpapered... dog providing moral support in the background. And even though this was finished months ago, still shopping for the new furniture and paintings for the room.https://ift.tt/2uZ1e52 via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2vjGYu2
