I'm moving this Friday, signed up for cable and internet service last week with the local TimeWarner affiliate (I couldn't find a single competitor, shocker) and it was $137 for everything I wanted.
Wanting to be a good r/frugal subscriber, I called today and told the woman with whom I spoke I wanted to cancel my order, lied and said I found cheaper service, gave her a few made-up specifics to counter her save attempts that didn't involve offering me a lower rate, and finally, she said, "Well, if you really wish to cancel the order, I can." "Are you able to do any better on the price?" "No, you got our best introductory rate." "Oh, well, then, you have called my bluff, please don't cancel my order."
She appreciated my candor, and then went through her system meticulously and found a way to get me 100-odd more channels, free premium channels for a year AND she saved me $13 per month.
If you can't be honest, always be polite and remember your r/frugal lessons!
