Good Morning,I'm headed to my folk's later this afternoon and I plan to stay there a few days. My dad asked for help with changing the floor on one of our bathroom's. I am not there yet so I can't give the full details of the project, but I'll try to give as much details as I can:Current bathroom tile floor is curling up from the ends. It feels like laminate/vinyl and it's an entire sheet that was laid down on the bathroom and cut to size.My dad says that it feels like cardboard or some sort of paper material underneath. My guess is that it was a sheet of flooring with the "cardboard" being placed and glued above the concrete, and then the sheet was applied on top. Either that or the flooring came with the cardboard backing to begin with.Below the old flooring is concrete. From what I'm being told, bits of the cardboard is still stuck on the concrete as the old floor is being pulled away. There's a layer of adhesive or some sort of light brown substance towards the middle of the bathroom as you peel away the tiles. My dad says there are these ridges--like something you'd see on grout or tileset. The bathroom is very tiny. It measures roughly 50 (127 cm) inches by 50 (127 cm) inches of tile space. The measurement I was given did not include the tub area as he only measured the area's where the flooring would be replaced.House was built in the early 80's according to previous owners. No idea if the bathroom was remodelled before we moved in, but my parents moved into house when my sister and I were young and we never did anything with.So neither my dad nor I are exactly DIY/home improvement types. I have way more experience and finesse--having changed the carpet to laminate flooring in my place a few years ago, and doing small things here and there. Having said that, neither of us are exactly in the know-how for this project. We just figure due to how small the bathroom is, the project in theory shouldn't be complicated. There are a few questions I had though:Does anyone have an idea of what adhesive we're talking about here? Can it be removed with some adhesive remover and a scraping knife? Or is special equipment required to move it?Can we place the new flooring (apparently he bought boxes of self-stick bathroom tiles) directly on the concrete, or will we need to place some sort of sheet/flooring above it?I've also read that if applying tiles to concrete directly, a primer of sorts should be used. Any merits to this?Any advice and suggestions for this project would be appreciated. I'll try to provide more detail and pictures if needed once I get there if my descriptions weren't enough. Again much of what I'm saying here is second hand, so I'll try to clarify if needed. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2KRbq5C
