My wife and recently completed our first DIY home improvement project and installed ¾” hardwood flooring in our living room. We were going to install the baseboards and baseboard registers last night and ran into our first issue. We must have measured the registers wrong as we have a small gap between the flooring and the front of the registers, between ⅛” and ¼”. Here’s a picture of one. In this photo the flooring is running parallel to the register, however one of the other registers is in a spot where the flooring runs perpendicular to the register, so we can’t fill the gap with more flooring. I looked online for deeper registers, and it seems ours are already deeper than most at 2 ¾” (they are 18” wide and 4.5”). We’re now looking for a way to cover the gap.Any ideas? My ideas were to cut plywood or something else to the exact size of the back of the register, screw it on and then paint it to match. I also considered moving the register away from the wall with spacers, and then filling the gap with something we could paint to match, but I’m not sure what would work. Finally we did find some oak baseboard registers which are much deeper at 3.5” (not sure if I'm allowed to post a link). It looks like they will work but they are somewhat expensive, and I’ve heard they are bad for air flow. Thanks! via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2NEXWM0
