I was at REI today for their garage sale, and I found a $1300 kayak for $350. I've wanted one for a long time, so I took a look and turned out it had a crack in the tail. Pictures below. Anyway, the crack is accessible from the inside as well because it connects to the dry well stowage area. I bought it with the intention of fixing it and having a kick-ass kayak for cheap. Anyway, here's my plan, and I was hoping for some feedback or tips. All items mentioned are linked to at the bottom.First, I was going to buy a piece of ABS plastic which is the same material the kayak is made of. Then I was going to heat it to about 400F to get it malleable, then stick it on the crack to mold it to the shape of the kayak. Then, while it cools, I was going to get some ABS plumbing cement and lay it on the crack. Stick the molded sheet of plastic to the cement, then heat weld the edges of the sheet to the kayak to smooth it out. For the inside I'd probably just fill it with the ABS cement.Hope it's not hard to follow. Below are the links.
