Background story, I left my job of 2 years back in March as I felt I 've hit the ceiling there and need to move to secure better career progress and pay.
I handed in my resignation early Feb and started job hunting. (I wouldn't have made as much effort into applying if I still have my previous job)
My previous role is a IT Support Specialist (level 2 support role) for a retail company and i'm hoping to look for something like level 3 support/system admin or something close to it.
By the end of my 4th week, I had few job offers ready but an IT director (owner) from a sister company approached me and made a job offer which I ended up taking with a payrise of about 25%.
My current title officially is IT Service Desk Manager in a Managed Service Provider company.
I'm managing 2 level 1/2 support at the moment but since we're looking to extend our client, we are hiring a system admin for a new client we're taking on board.
Now the problem is I'm earning around $70k atm and we're struggling to find the right fit for this position through our current recruitment agency.
My manager talked to this other recruitment agency (per my reference as I've worked with the company/agent previously) to get this sysadmin.
This agency send an email out every couple of weeks or so for any vacancies. I received their email yesterday and one of them was an ads for our company.
The problem is, the ads say the job is paying $90k base whereas im earning $70k and he will be reporting to me.
Did I undervalue myself when I was applying for jobs especially on my current position? I don't have much experience being a manager (i had level 1 and temp etc but they dont report directly to me) so I was willing to take less than normal for this one.
I'm basically 2ic in my current company and this is a good experience but I'm not sure how I would feel if someone thats reporting to me is earning significantly more than myself?
I'm not sure whether I should approach my manager to talk about this or how to handle this..
Please help!!
TLDR - Got a new job paying about 70k as a manager (don't have much experience as manager), will have someone reporting to me earning $90k~. Not sure how I feel about it or how to approach my manager in a respectful manner so I can get myself a promotion/payrise plan etc
