Short version: My entire interior trim and doors have been coated, painted purple, coating more, and now look like marshmallow doors with no form. Is there any easy way to re-do these without stripping all paint off? When I moved into this house, I noticed every piece of trim and interior door were painted with an incredible thick layer of flat white paint. I assumed this was a primer, and ended up repainting it all with a quality trip paint. But since then, I cannot unsee the sheer amount of paint glopped on these doors. You cannot see any "wood" grain patters and just looks terrible with my now semi-gloss sheen paint on it.So I had enough, and took off one of the bedroom doors, went to the garage, grabbed two gallons of paint stripper, and went to work. I took off my layer of paint, several layers of the chalky white "primer" they had on there, then to at least one layer of deep purple, then another layer of white, and the final coating that came with the door. This took at least a gallon and several days, trying to get all layers of paint out of every nook and cranny in the door. I just finished yesterday, and other than a few spots where my stripping and scraping did take off the door layer revealing some cardboard-like surface, it looks leaps and bounds better than the others. I have scrapped some paint off other doors and random trim throughout the house to confirm the same paint system and purple, but I don't think I have the time nor energy to do the same throughout the entire house. Any "acceptable" shortcuts? Assuming some sanding, but there is so much dry millage on there, I can't imagine the mess, amount of sandpaper, and time that will take. New trim and doors I seriously considering now. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2JMu1lK
