My husband and I have an 11 month old son. We recently wanted to get him a few new toys. We wanted simple stuff: an activity board and some wooden blocks.
We went to Target thinking we could get both for around $20. We were so wrong. Both items were over $20. So, we were right next door to a thrift store so we stopped in there to take a quick peak.
They had the EXACT same activity board we were looking at when we were at Target. It was in great shape and was only $2. They also had a full set of blocks for $3. We snagged both!
Since we saved so much money, we decided we'd go get some books as well. My son really likes to try to rip pages, so we have to buy him the kind that have really thick pages he's unable to rip. These are usually $5-$10 new. Well, lo and behold, children's books are $1.29 EACH (including the thicker-paged books) where I went and they had a deal where if you buy 4, you get the 5th one for free. We bought 5.
Well, we happened to stroll by the kitchenware section and I found a KitchenAid hand mixer, in the exact color I've been wanting, for $8. It sells new on Amazon for around $40. Well, we decided we'd try to plug it in to make sure it works. We went to open the box and it still had a seal on it from the factory. We opened it up just in case and everything was still in its packaging, it was brand new. I snagged that as well.
I have to say, I am VERY pleased with thrift shopping and had loads of fun finding stuff at such a good deal! I am pretty frugal when shopping already, and I almost never buy things I don't need, so it was awesome to be able to "splurge" a little bit and buy myself something I had really been wanting.
Sorry for writing so much, this was longer than I expected. I just thought I'd share my experience!
