Hubs and I are on a seriously frugal, debt repayment plan and have made amazing progress. Part of this was getting rid of our car payments and getting a couple older cars for cash. A few weeks back, the A/C went out on one. I can’t really justify buying a different car but am becoming increasingly more miserable and irritable as the heat rises. It’s 100(F) everyday this week and will basically be that the rest of the summer. Am I taking this too far? Should I just suck it up, put a hold on the debt repayment and get a different car? I struggle with maintaining balance between frugal and extreme. I know there are many people who don’t have A/C in their cars (or homes!) so I feel like I’m whining. Mechanic quoted $1,300 to fix the A/C so it just doesn’t seem worth it for this old car (we paid $2k for it 6 months ago and have already put another $1k in it). My commute is 45 minutes each way. The morning is fine, but the afternoon is a killer. We use our other car for evening and weekend outings.
