Does anybody have a calculation for figuring out how much money you would save by having your furnace fan on to recirculate cold air from your basement up to the main floor of a house rather than using AC? We only use the AC for a few hours a day in the evening right now but temperatures are rising. Our basement is very cold (and sometimes we have a small space heater on for one room because it's so cold down there even now) so I want to get that cold air up to the main floor so that everyone is more comfortable. I just want to make sure running the fan makes sense. Presently we've closed all the ducts in the basement so the AC mainly goes upstairs. Is there a way to calculate the cost difference for say 1 hour of AC running versus fan running, or 1 degree of change?
