This was a fun frugal tip that I picked up a few months ago. I went online and found a clock that was rated for bathrooms and showers (fairly inexpensive) and hung it up in the bathroom where I could see it from the shower. It's got big numbers and it counts out the seconds.

I found that after doing that, both my wife and I were far more conscious of how much time we were spending in the shower. Both of us liked taking long showers but since putting that clock in there, both of us have reduced our shower times by about half.

I don't know how that figures into our actual money savings because we just moved into a new house about 6 months ago and we have other things that use water now (yay actually having a lawn), but I figure if our shower puts out about 2 Gallons per minute and I've cut my showers by about 8 minutes every day and my wife has cut her showers by about 15 minutes every day, we're saving roughly 46 Gallons per day on water on showers.
