Just wanted to share a recent observation I had about simple living in the summer (or whatever time of year is most enjoyable to be outdoors where you live).

I realized that part of the reason I look forward to this time of year so much is that, at least for me, my life and my pleasures are much simpler when the weather is nice. Going for a walk with my wife every night. Sitting outside and reading a book, playing guitar, or just people watching. Walking along the lake or through an interesting neighborhood (which I know is something not everyone can do; fortunate to live in Chicago near the lakefront, which also has many costs in an un-simple life). I don't have a backyard but if I did it could involve gardening, grilling, whatever.

Some of this may seem obvious, that life is better when the weather is nice, but it was kind of big for me to realize that I like this time of year not just because I get to be outside but because I spend my free time doing simple things that I can be fully present in. When I watch Netflix with my wife we are both staring at the screen; but when we go for a walk we are talking to each other and observing things around us.

The next challenge will be trying to apply these things once the weather turns again.
