I am an engineer working in the oilfield. My schedule is the worst part about my job. I work 14 days on and 7 days off. During my 14 on, I work an average of 16 hours a day. We are short handed right now so I have been having to work a lot of my off weeks. So I have been working 5-8 weeks straight before getting that week off. The money is great. I will probably come out with 120K-140K in 2018.
I am engaged and trying to plan a wedding and I have a big family that is local and they all get together often. I have missed so many family events and am away from my fiancé a lot. I don’t want to do it anymore and I’m looking for a way out.
Student loans: $680/month Truck payment: $575/month Mortgage: $1800/month Utilities: another couple hundred.
My first solution is sell my truck and get something cheaper.
I can get a job with a better schedule probably making 80K-90K, which I think I could live comfortably. But I need to cut back to save for my wedding and other things with the house.
Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on the best way to cut back so I’m not stuck in my dreadful job? Any advice helps!
