Hi all,

Rent is increasing in all parts of my city and my friends decided not to sign for another year. They asked me if they could move in with me and they’re happy to pay $500 for each room and a share of the utilities. I’ll only be out of pocket $100 and another $100-150 for utilities.

Alternatively I could rent out my whole home for $1,500 and live with my girlfriend and pay $200 a month + utilities. It’ll just take me until end of June to list the home for rent, and hopefully I’ll find renters by August, while my friends could move in by June.

Anyone been on the same boat? I appreciate the advice, thanks all.

Edit: Thank you everyone for the feedback! After thinking a bit I may rent out the rooms for $550/month + utilities instead of $500. That’s still the same that they were paying for their apartment, and their rooms are slightly bigger as well (14’x14’ compared to 10’x10’) I’ll be increasing their rent by $50 the year after. Maybe $100.

They’re great friends whom I don’t see moving out to buy a home, as they spend all their money on video games and takeout. They’ve lived in the same apartment for 6 years, and had $50 yearly increases until this year because of the influx of people moving into the city.
