I'm rebuilding two fully gutted bathrooms that share a wall framed with 2x6's, with one having a bathtub, will be tiled above it to the ceiling, and directly adjacent to the 5' tub (through the wall) is a 5' walk in shower in the other bathroom, and also will be tiled to the ceiling. The shared wall is framed with 2x6's, I'll be using half inch cement board on both bathrooms, and I'm going to put niches on both sides and just go crazy with redguard to make sure the water barrier is present before tile goes up.An idea I had was to use the 'back side' of the stud mounted cement board from one of the bathrooms as the back wall of the niche in the other. It would still have tile on both sides, wall tile from the normal side, and niche tile on the niche side. Doing this would allow for deeper pockets, but I'm not sure if I'm being greedy with the space, and if this would risk compromising strength somewhere. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2IQLUiT
