Hi all, first of all thank you so much for taking the time to read my post. I'm a 20 year old male college student, and I'm doing an internship in the San Francisco Bay area this summer.

I managed to find a housing arrangement where my rent is only $850/month including utilities. I'll be about 2 miles from my workplace, so I can either purchase a bike or walk to work every day. I don't know which is more viable, I've lived in a very cold part of the east coast my whole life and have never been out west.

My main concern is food. I'm living in a room-rental arrangement, where I have a private bedroom and bathroom in a house, and I believe I have privileges to share the kitchen during daytime hours as well. I don't want to be an inconvenience and take up too much time or space in any shared spaces, so I'd love any advice on what foods to purchase that can be easily stored and cooked, as well as low budget. I'm also not sure how to actually get the groceries either- the nearest grocery store is 3.1 miles from my place. I will not be able to use a car.

I'll be making $23.80/hour before tax, and I think about $3500/mo after tax. I would like to save as much money as possible from this summer, because I am already trying to pay the interest on my student loans, to which I currently am indebted around $48,000 already. I will be going into the summer with about $2,000 in emergency funds.

Thanks again for taking the time to read, I would greatly appreciate any advice you have for me! :)
