I work for a small software company in the tech support department. The department consists of four people. We've been told that we are going to start offering 24/7 technical support, with one member of staff being on call at a time.

Whoever is on call will receive an extra £300 in their salary per week regardless of whether or not a call is taken. They will also receive an extra 150% of their hourly salary per hour for any calls taken.

My problem is that I can't decide whether or not £300 is enough. We need to be able to respond to a call within an hour of receiving it, so we basically can't do anything that puts us more than one hour away from a PC that we can use to access the customers system. That week is a write off whether a call is received or not.

We also already have a system in place where a customer can buy a day of weekend support. The person on call that day receives £250 regardless of whether or not a call comes in... Seems odd that a full week only qualifies us to an extra £50.

Is anyone else already in a similar situation? Does this sound like a bad deal, or am I being greedy?
