10 months ago i was in an accident, and had to go the the E.R. for a broken limb. long story short i begin receiving bills after release from hospital for various things such as doctors, anesthesia, etc . i was astonished when i received my bill from the hospital that i owed them 27,000$ after insurance. i was anxious because i had no way of paying that debt back for a very long time. eventually i visited the hospital to discuss a payment plan, and found out the amount billed was a "paperwork error", and i only owed 170$. i was thrilled and payed the amount on the spot wanting to be done as quickly as possible. i payed what i thought were the remaining charges to the other parties, and stopped receiving any bills.
that is until i got a phone call yesterday from a collection agency saying that i owed them 123$ on a past debt. I downloaded credit karma, and found the original debt was held by the hospital. i am very confused on how this happened ,and i am wandering what my next move is. unfortunately the hospital financial department is closed till Tuesday. if Reddit could give me any advice that would be much appreciated.
