So despite my more frugal nature, i decided to get my gf a traditional engagement ring. I was hoping to spend around a thousand dollars, but it amazed me how little you get for a 1000 at jewelry stores. I can already hear what youre going to say, mossanite, but even mossanite rings arent that cheap, and basically no jewlery store carries them. So you have to buy them online and you dont get to see them first.
Then i went to a pawn shop. The exact same ring I saw at the Jewlery store for 3000-5000 was selling at a pawn shop for 400 bucks (before I even started negotiating) and they offered free resizing and said I could bring it back and exchange it for any other ring for the full price they sold it to me if my GF doesnt like the style.
I ended up choosing this ring, although im visint a few other pawn shops to see if I can find anything that stands out to me. Real diamond, they have the testers right in the shop, and they offered a free resizing with purchase.
The diamonds they sell at Jewelry stores are recycled diamonds, just like these are, the only difference is theres no insane markup with pawn shops.
tl:dr, when buying engagment rings, if you want real diamond, traditional rings, dont pay anything over 500 for anything basic, or a grand for anything fancy, buy it from a pawn shop.
